Ducati seems to have a problem with rust inside of their tanks, they tell you in the manual to always keep the tank full when storing bike for any length of time. They really mean it
This tank had set for a couple of years when the owner got his bike back out to ride again he had what he called pin holes in the bottom of the tank.
After doing a little rubbing this is what he really had, the tank had rusted out from the inside and had rotted away.
Then cut out all the bad areas
And then welded in new steel
Here is the finish work the rest of the tank was repainted and decaled and then cleared
The cost of a new tank from the dealer was $1150 the cost to make the repairs and make the tank look like new again was $425 plus return shipping.
We also do tank sealing to help prevent such things from happening and we can also seal a tank that has small leaks you can read more about this process by visiting our site.
