Repair Of A Dented Fuel Tank Ducati Monstor

One of the more common repairs we make are to the Ducati Monster fuel tank, the handle bars leave the tell tale mark any time the bike is dropped. This is an example of a  bike knocked over in the driveway

Pins are welded to the dented area and then the dent is pulled, to make a proper repair this is necessary, if you just filled the dented area the body work would eventually show, the rapid heating and cooling of the tank causes the metal to expand and contract, the body filler if is dense will do so at different rates causing a separation between the body work and the tank.

Once the dent has been pulled the tank is then pressure tested for any leaks

The body work is then done the tank  is primed

A common choice is to have the flat black stock paint on the Ducati Monster changed to a gloss black, the advantage of this is that now the decals can be placed under the clear to protect them. The factory paint is a cheap single stage paint with the decals applied on the out side any spillage of gas results in the decals turning brown and this change to a base coat clear coat system solves that particular problem,
